MUSIC: Nicole Bus at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver
Nicole Bus was on tour with Common, and while most photographers were only arriving to shoot the main act, I was happy to have arrived early for her incredibly powerful set.

Miyavi is a great example of an artist that I knew nothing about before I saw the poster for his show a few month before the date he was going to be in Vancouver. It also highlights how great imagery and a compellingly designed poster can sell someone who has never heard of your band wanting to attend your show… I for one, was glad that I did, and I was one of only two local photographers in the pit for this show!
Common is one of those people who simply oozes talent. He’s won Grammy’s, an Oscar, and a number of other awards too numerous to list. When the chance came to photograph his set in Vancouver, I jumped on that in a second. All photos with the Fuji X100F.
When I was asked to photograph and write a review for the show I didn’t know what to expect, but after listening to a few tracks on YouTube, I knew I had to attend this show
Billy Idol was one of those bucket list concerts to shoot for me. I missed him 2 – 3 times since I started pointing my camera at musicians, and I was thrilled to have been able to finally shoot him this time.
What an incredible opportunity this was! To listen to this man speak is incredibly inspiring. He’s literally travelled around the world around 2,300 times during his stint on the ISS.
I’ve been a huge fan of Steven’s since the 90s when my parents got the family deep into The Barenaked Ladies after their release of Gordon in 1992. In the last few years, I have been lucky enough to photograph BNL twice. Even though they put on an incredible show, I always missed what Steven brought to the table.
I remember seeing the Tea Party back at EdgeFest in Vancouver in 1998 or 1999 before I really decided that I wanted to shoot concerts, but what I do remember, is that I was at the front of the stage against the barrier for their entire set, and I was really excited to be standing on the other side of the barrier twenty years later.
Jared James Nichols, Dead Girls Academy, and John5. This was a very guitar-driven night at the Rickshaw
