Pastime Sports and Games, the store I cover these events for opened up shop an impressive 20 years ago, and wanted to celebrate with a bang. Cue former Vancouver Giant, and NHL Rookie Brendan Gallagher, who resides here off season. Brendan is the first hockey star I have photographed who is actually younger than I am. Seven years to be exact! He was a pleasure to deal with, and will do great things in his career.
Earlier today we went down to the annual show and shine. I wanted to do something a little different from my usual stuff, so I took an abstract look at approach to some of my favorites. If you look closely you’ll be able to pick out a few Mustangs, which have long since been my car of choice (I have a 67 2dr Coupe). Enjoy this rather large post!
An older event that I was just clearing from the hard-drive and backing up this week, I figured I would share some images from a conference I was commissioned to shoot a few months back for CLA in Langley. The event was a faith based missions conference and dessert.
As an almost formal end to the 2012/13, former Boston Bruin, Hall of Fame Goaltender Gerry Cheevers stopped by Langley on a tour of Canada for all sorts of events, which delighted the fans.
We’re getting close to finishing the hockey signing season, and the second to last guest this spring is an under appreciated player if there ever was one. For the many people who don’t know who he is; he was instrumental in starting the NHLPA (Players Association) and he was the first player to skate around the rink with the cup, starting a tradition that stood the test of time.
He told us, however, that he was not the first to lift it above his head. He only wanted to show it to the fans.
Down the street half a block from my apartment in New Westminster is a little Romainian Orthodox church which overlooks the Fraser River. One night last year, I returned home from a shoot to hundreds of people lining the streets with candles for what I later found out to be Orthodox Easter, so this year when the date came, I was ready to capture some photos.
The Hockey season is closing out, and so are the signing events. Serge Savard, 10 time winner of the Stanley Cup is the third last until next September. It was a definite pleasure to work with him.
Travis Lulay is the latest in a long line of professional athlete signing events that I have been happy to work with. This time, the Langley location of Pastime Sports and Games played host to the signing, and the lineup was out the door for a good portion of it. The crowds are usually quite happy that they can get their stuff signed without making a trip all the way out to Vancouver city.
In addition to the last post I made regarding the Men of Hope Poker Tournament, I covered two other events last April 6th. Hockey Hall of Famer Johnny Bower, and former Canuck enforcer Gino Odjick.
