The 2017 New Westminster Grand Prix happened this week, and while it blocked off my apartment from the rest of the world, I was able to literally just head downstairs with one camera and one lens and grab some shots. I’m all for not having to carry around a heavy camera bag!
All shots here are shot for fun, with the D800 and the Nikon 50/1.4 Lens playing around with some shutter dragging (no flash) to try and capture some compelling shots with a sense of movement. It was a challenge, but I came away with enough shots to share. So enjoy!
It’s looking like this summer is just generally going to be about golf. Maybe I should take up the sport. I did pick up a new Titleist hat at this tourney (mostly because I forgot sunscreen), so it might be a sign. I’d probably need a few extra strokes on each hole for a while , though.
More Golf! This time around I was out at UBC at the University Golf Course for the Annual Birdies for Babies golf tournament. I was happy to be a part of the event which raised around $200,000 for BC Women’s Hospital. It is always fun shooting around the course with a cart that spent a lot of time with the pedal to the metal.. Except for the tight switchback heading up to the 14th tee. That’s a bit scary.
It’s definitely Golf season, and not just for the Canucks! A nice sunny day with a golf cart and a camera? Yes, please!
This event was held in Surrey at the exceptional Hazelmere Golf Club.
This past weekend, I was proud to have been asked to attend and photograph a party, thrown by Gino Odjick for the one and only Pavel ‘Russian Rocket’ Bure, on the eve of his jersey retirement with the Canucks. During his Vancouver years, Pavel spent a lot of time with Gino on the Musqueam lands, and thus, was honoured this night by the First Nations, receiving gifts and commendations from several local chiefs and bands.
It’s been almost a year since I last photographed Guy LaFleur, and this year saw nearly three full days with Mr Flower. Guy is a one of a kind soul, who recognizes that it was not only his skill, but his fans that made him a star, and he treats them with the same amount of respect that they show him. Always happy to work with Guy. I shot mostly video this time around, so scroll to the bottom for the 3:00 feature I put together!
Good ol’ Geroy, no longer a BC Lion still finds time to come out and sign for his fans in support of BC Cancer Foundation. I’ve said it before, but if you ever have a chance to interact with this guy, you’re in for a treat. Happy to have photographed him for a third time, earlier this month.
Last week I was out at UBC Golf Club for a Tournament put on by CREW Vancouver. It was a blast to follow around special guest Kirk McLean even though the weather didn’t always treat us the best. I definitely look forward to doing it again next year.
The Hockey season is closing out, and so are the signing events. Serge Savard, 10 time winner of the Stanley Cup is the third last until next September. It was a definite pleasure to work with him.
The latest Hockey player to add to the list over the last year is Mr Ryan Kesler – Current Vancouver Canuck, soon to be back on the ice after a broken foot in February around the time I was shooting an event with his teammate Alex Burrows.
