Down in Vancouver’s darkest club, or at least one of them lies a 20ft stage with very minimal lighting. Set to Stun, an alternative rock quartet out of Vancouver were playing a gig, opening up for Vancouver heavy-weights Fake Shark Real Zombie. As it was a bit of a big deal, they hired me on to capture the moments that needed to be caught. I was quite happy with what I came away with, and I know they are, as well.

I’ll be honest. It has been a long time since I dusted off the D300 for street photography. I’ve primarily been shooting digital for commercial work only, and most personal projects with film, but I decided to just take it easy and capture some street frames on a camera I may have been ignoring for ‘fun’ work over the last two years.

Italian Day on Commercial Drive is one of the few times a year that they shut down the busy street to cars in favour of hundreds and thousands of people, families, hipsters, and photographers. The event focuses on Italian heritage prevalent in the area, thus you are able to take in all sorts of pastas, deserts, and other italian dishes at the many food carts, booths, and restaurants.

Some more work from L8R Records I was commissioned on over the last few weeks. One show has passed and the other is yet to come.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes were a pleasure to work with during our photo session, and an extracted version of one of the photos we took during our shoot sits atop the poster
I’ve been sitting on these rolls for a while as I have been working on a few other projects, but that being said, they still aren’t that old. Shot about a month ago to present, They basically represent a slow late April and early May. I am hoping to have only one more roll through the GR1s before my M6 is back after being freshly CLA’d and repaired. I can’t wait.

Curious looks
We’re getting close to finishing the hockey signing season, and the second to last guest this spring is an under appreciated player if there ever was one. For the many people who don’t know who he is; he was instrumental in starting the NHLPA (Players Association) and he was the first player to skate around the rink with the cup, starting a tradition that stood the test of time.
He told us, however, that he was not the first to lift it above his head. He only wanted to show it to the fans.

Every once in a while I get asked by a church-going friend if I am able to make some frames of an event for them, and having an interest in people and how they function in general, religions of all sorts seems interesting to me. These particular images were captured at an ordainment for a pentecostal christian minister back in 2012. One of the most emotive parts of someone in worship is their hands. Our personality is overtly tied in to what we do with our hands, it’s undeniable.
Whenever I think about this, I remember an old Seinfeld skit where he said that the only reason it’s uncomfortable being naked is we don’t know what to do with our hands. If we had a belt with a few pockets it wouldn’t be half bad.

Down the street half a block from my apartment in New Westminster is a little Romainian Orthodox church which overlooks the Fraser River. One night last year, I returned home from a shoot to hundreds of people lining the streets with candles for what I later found out to be Orthodox Easter, so this year when the date came, I was ready to capture some photos.

Swollen Members, Juno winning Canadian Hip-Hop stars are back with a brand new disc. Beautiful Death Machine, and found themselves on a Canadian Tour in support of the disc. I was lucky enough to have an all access badge for their homecoming show, April 18th.
