Down the street half a block from my apartment in New Westminster is a little Romainian Orthodox church which overlooks the Fraser River. One night last year, I returned home from a shoot to hundreds of people lining the streets with candles for what I later found out to be Orthodox Easter, so this year when the date came, I was ready to capture some photos.
Swollen Members, Juno winning Canadian Hip-Hop stars are back with a brand new disc. Beautiful Death Machine, and found themselves on a Canadian Tour in support of the disc. I was lucky enough to have an all access badge for their homecoming show, April 18th.
The Hockey season is closing out, and so are the signing events. Serge Savard, 10 time winner of the Stanley Cup is the third last until next September. It was a definite pleasure to work with him.
Travis Lulay is the latest in a long line of professional athlete signing events that I have been happy to work with. This time, the Langley location of Pastime Sports and Games played host to the signing, and the lineup was out the door for a good portion of it. The crowds are usually quite happy that they can get their stuff signed without making a trip all the way out to Vancouver city.
I finally got around to sending my M6 out for repair, but the other week I went out with another local Vancouver shooter, Frank Nelissen and really felt good about what I captured.
In addition to the last post I made regarding the Men of Hope Poker Tournament, I covered two other events last April 6th. Hockey Hall of Famer Johnny Bower, and former Canuck enforcer Gino Odjick.
As part of a trio events last April 6th, I was invited to photograph the Men of Hope Poker Tournament in Aldergrove. It has been a long road for organizer Andy Bhatti, but it has only just began. The event is a precursor to a bike ride he will be doing this summer from Vernon B.C. To Vancouver.
The latest Hockey player to add to the list over the last year is Mr Ryan Kesler – Current Vancouver Canuck, soon to be back on the ice after a broken foot in February around the time I was shooting an event with his teammate Alex Burrows.
It’s been a little while since I have had any street photographs to share. That’s mostly been because of poor weather, but also due to the fact my Leica is still not fixed, as it has gotten put off week to week to week since I don’t have a lot of film right now. April should see a huge order go through, and the M6 fixed – but until then, here are some more shots with the RICOH GR1s

This past Wednesday, March 27th was a huge day at Surrey Central Mall. Pastime Sports and Games brought in Ryan Kesler, who sold out his showing quickly, along with The Green Men, and the one and only Sophie Tweed. She may have felt like the odd one out if it wasn’t for the fact the event was a fundraiser for Sophie’s Place, a centre in Surrey B.C. That helps out kids in need.
